| The Andrew O’Malley room is a lesson in Irish history at the time of the Great Famine. With the exception of the charming bathroom, this comforting room is a faithful recreation of a delightful cottage on the tranquil, southern tip of Clew Bay in County Mayo at the Atlantic Ocean. Weathered, wide board flooring leads past the vestibule into the combination bedroom/ sitting area with an open hearth fireplace. Surrounding the hearth are a rocker, spinning wheel, butter churn, and a small turf wagon. A corner loveseat and chair next to the queen-size bed offer a restful place to sit and peruse the books on Irish history and poetry. A beamed ceiling, thick plastered walls and shuttered windows complete the scene. The charming bathroom features an antique tub with hand-held shower, marble top sink retrofitted into a vintage treadle-machine base and a high-tank commode, all resting on a beautiful tiled floor. The luck of the Irish is yours! |
